learning lessons

First off, I'm going to apologise as this will be a picture-less post. So run and do something else a little more thrilling if you choose...

I won't be offended.

Well, I might.

Anyway! A story for you:

On a beautiful bright Friday morning, some Prepchuk people (my children and I) took our somewhat beloved dog for a walk. It's been a going tradition for some time now. Due to the fact that some of my children (LENA) can't handle much of a long walk, we are only out for maybe 15 minutes. And even that is too much for her sometimes (OHHH.... my legs are SO tired. I am SO hot! Are we almost home???)

When we returned from our morning walk, we had the misfortune to discover that while we were out enjoying the beauty of the earth, a couple of strangers decided that they would like to spend their morning breaking into our house and helping themselves to our stuff.

And they DID.

As you can imagine this was shocking and disheartening, and maddening, and frightening, and the list could go on forever.

They took off with some pieces of technology (including, sadly for the kids, their iPods.... and there were tears, believe ME), and to my horror, they had snatched my bag with my wallet. And since they had my wallet, they then decided they should take themselves off to the local mall and spend MASSIVE amounts of money that my husband worked hard for, and had fully intended to use to support his family with, and not to pay for them to have expensive jewellery, phones, iPads, cigarettes and fancy clothes.

Let's just say we've had better days.

Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for the greedy thieves, because they used my cards, the bank was able to tell what stores they were at, what time they were there, and what they bought. Combine that with the surveillance at the mall, and the police were able to identify them. They've caught one of the culprits, and are currently "hunting" down the other.

Technology has it's uses after all!

Anyway, there is a point to this post, and it is not to get ourselves a little sympathy, but to share a lesson learned.

My husband and my son recently had a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah. While there, my son used his iPod to take approximately five trillion pictures. It was a well documented trip by him. When they returned from their trip, of course I kept thinking to myself, I should take those pictures and put them on our blog, and make sure I get this trip properly recorded. But I got lazy and procrastinated, and didn't do it.

And now I have to deal with the regret, because Reid's iPod was one of the things stolen, and now those pictures are gone and lost forever. It was a crushing realisation, and I am sorry for my son, whom I admire, because when I explained the loss, he said to me: "I am sad about the things that were taken, but I am more sorry for them, because they have to live with the bad thing they have done."

TRUE!

And it is just stuff, and that can be replaced, but I still feel bad about the pictures lost. I have realised that I should be doing better with this blog. It is a great way to record memories, stories, pictures, videos... it is more than just an entertaining look into our lives by our family in friends. It has become a family journal, and a little record of our life. It may be insignificant to the rest of the world, but it has value to US, and I should take more time to add to it. It's fun for us to take a look back at things, remember what we have done.... funny things the kids have said... look at pictures, laugh at videos and be embarrassed by my sarcastic remarks.

So, in a nutshell... I have learned an important lesson:

Update the blog lazy bones! It is actually important after all.

And the other important lesson I've learned from this ordeal:
