tiny dancer

I know it's Christmas time and everything, and I will get to the Christmas posting soon enough, BUT first, I had to share this one...

About a month ago our ward had an 80's dance, and everyone was strongly encouraged to dress up in their 80's gear and be prepared to boogie down to some good old 80's music.

Wes and I were children of the 80's, but considering that all our clothes from that decade were long ago outgrown and parted with, and that I was not willing to fork out money on purchasing clothes from what I feel is the ugliest fashion period in the history of the world, we settled for dressing up in our 2011 clothes (gasp!) and just enjoyed the funky music.

Wes, whose unofficial ward calling is to emcee every ward function, gathered up all the people who bothered to dress up and had a little competition to see who looked the raddest. For some reason, I don't know why, it ended up that each person had to display their outfit by busting out their best moves for the panel of judges. The costume competition quickly turned into a dance competition, and when Lena caught on to that, she just had to participate. She is very proud of her dance moves.

It was getting to the end of the line of dressed up dancers, and Lena was starting to panic that she wasn't getting a turn. The tears starting flowing, and she desperately tried to get her daddy's attention so that he would include her in the fun. He humoured her, and let her go out at the end, despite the fact that she was not displaying any 80's fashion at all.

So out she slowly walks to the centre of the hall, but because she had been in such a distressed state a few moments before, she's got her head down, and fingers shyly stuck in her mouth. The music starts playing, and she just stands there. And stands there... everyone watching and waiting.

I am so sure she is going to be too shy and embarrassed to dance, and I'm ready to go out there and save her, when suddenly, her head pops up and she starts busting out the cutest little dance moves. Everyone is loving it of course, and wondering how on earth quiet, conservative Amanda Prepchuk ever produced such a child.

I couldn't help but wonder also.

Anyway, let's make this long story a little shorter shall we?

Lena won the competition thanks to her cuteness, and in spite of the fact that her mother didn't even dress her up at all.

Cutest of all for me though, was how THRILLED her brothers were for her. Reid and Jarom were beaming with pride, and Conner ran up to me afterwards jumping and shouting with a big smile on his face.... "I was so hoping Lena would win, and SHE DID!!!!"
