time to say good-bye...

A story for you:

Almost three years ago we brought home a "don't-you-just-want-to-squeeze-him-puppy…"

Those are the best kind you know.

(Really… I know you want to squeeze him)

I suppose about a year after we brought home this adventure, our littlest Prepchuk (aka: Lena, queen of the allergies) developed yet another allergy… our dog.

We thought it would be fine as long as we kept the two of them apart, which worked okay for awhile. But of course, it began to be a problem. It's hard to keep a dog feeling a part of a family, when one of those family members has to run and hide every time you get near.

(Back in the day when she didn't sneeze her face off when he came within fifty feet)

So! We told our kids we'd have to find a new home for Wilson.

Their reaction went something like this:
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! WAHHHHHHH!!!!"

Times a thousand.

And then they looked at us with their faces like this:

If you have kids, you know this face.

So we kept him and tried it out some more.

Fast forward until about a week ago.

We are in a new house, with even less room for our very large dog. Lena STILL allergic (yes, we hoped she would grow out of it), and poor Wilson is just too isolated and can't properly be a part of our family. We finally decide this is not fair to him anymore, and we break the news to the kids that we are going to have to find a new home for their dog.

They were devastated of course (mainly Reid and Jarom), but they understood, and did their best to accept the sad news.

So they prayed their little hearts out that we could find the best home for Wilson, and it must have done the trick, as a few days later, we were contacted by the type of family we were keeping our fingers crossed for. They were good enough to let us bring Wilson to them, so the boys would be able to see Wilson's new pad. They have a beautiful home, with TONS of space for Wilson to roam around, a horse (Reid was in love), chickens, and two lady friends (golden retrievers) for Wilson to play with.

We are really happy with his new home... it's like a little dog paradise, and his new family already loves him so much. The boys, although feeling a bit heartbroken, are grateful Wilson will have such an awesome place to be now. We'll be picturing him our minds forever now, running around, playing with his new "sisters" and being spoiled by his new owners.

Picture time… (last day with Wilson)

Gazing adoringly into his Reid's eyes… hoping for...

This is what goes through this dog's mind every second of every day.
He LOVES his food. You have no idea.

Although he was our "family dog,"
the truth is, he was really Reid and Jarom's dog more than anything.
They did all the hard work, and loved him to bits.

Wilson, drunk on love.

Aw, how sweet.
Yes, it was kind of sunny outside (Jarom's face)

Good-bye, sweet Wilson...
