a birthday

So... about a month ago (May 25th to be exact), my biggest kid had a birthday. A tenth one. Major stuff! And since it was such a big deal and all, I thought it would be nice of me to blog about it as quickly as possible.

I'm good like that sometimes. I am on THE BALL.

No sarcasm here at all.

I've been busy okay?!

So for his tenth birthday, Reid made the very grown up decision to take a bunch of friends and have a little something called a "jet boat ride."

What's that, you may wonder...?

It's this...

Fun times. They zoom... they zip... they fling you around like little rag dolls.
(Our group took up the two middle rows)

I think it's possible he had a good time.

I know what you're thinking. Where's the cool cake? The dinosaur? The tiger? The five car train? Those days are done, my friend. He's ten now. The time has come for the plain-slightly-sloping-to-the-side-we'll-cover-you-in-sprinkles-to-make-you-look-half-decent CAKE.

Growing old can be a painful experience sometimes. He handled it well enough.

As you can see, lighting the candles can be the most thrilling moment of a birthday party.
I mean, really! They can hardly contain their excitement!

Since his actual birthDAY came a few days before his birthday party, we had a nice little pre-celebration at home. Just us... boring, and jet boat-less.

We got him a present or two.

They made him happy.

Presents can have that effect on people sometimes.

This. This for some reason is the picture that makes my heart feel weird, and causes my brain to say,
"ummm, no... sorry... but you can't be ten... it's not possible, because to ME...

... THIS is you, all cute and chubbers, and you don't need fast jet boat rides to be happy
because you are totally satisfied playing with one of those popper-thingy-ma-bobber toys!"

And is it bothering anyone else that this picture is slighty off from all of the others???!!!
I can't seem to figure out why!

Moving on!

A moment of silence everyone for the fate of these poor flames. They don't stand a chance.
They will be extinguished forever from our lives. Pause. Reflect. This is serious people!

Okay!!! Now terminate those suckers! We wouldn't want any possible girlfriends on our hands!

(Happy Birthday Reid...)
