I don't know why it's called a "lost tooth" because he really didn't lose it at all. He knew perfectly well it's exact location right up until the tooth fairy took it. So why, I wonder is it called loosing a tooth... hmmm... strange. And now that I think about it, it's also strange that we say things like "his tooth fell out" because it didn't fall out either.
