look who's two...

Ahhh... finally... a post. Sorry for the neglect... if you're wondering if everything was okay, you'll just have to keep wondering... blogs aren't really the place for heart to hearts. But in order to make up for our long absence, here's a nice long post for you, with lots of cute pictures. It was Conner's birthday today (don't worry, I'm not going to ream anyone out for not calling this time. He's two years old after all, and doesn't have a clue who any of you are... harsh, but true)... and so here's a bunch of pictures of us forcing him to enjoy his day.

The cake... obviously. We get less and less extravagant with each passing birthday. Too many kids, not enough time, not enough patience... and we've really ran out of ideas. The cake was not supposed to stay in the pan like that... which greatly bothered the 'have to have everything perfect' part of my brain. But for some reason, we had no baking paper in the house, which is odd in itself, because we are obsessed with the stuff. And so, despite the fact that I gave the pan a good greasing, the cake decided it would much rather stick to the pan than come out. And surprisingly enough, not one single boy in the house cared in the least. (Yes, that was sarcastic)

He looks less than thrilled with his stash... he's wondering where the other fifty presents are... two year olds can be soooo demanding. Especially this one.

He was happy to discover however, that there was actually some good stuff wrapped up in that paper. And he ripped through them as quick as he could... which wasn't actually that quick, because I can kind of go overboard with the tape.

His favourite present, of course! And he couldn't have cared less about the other presents once he got a few more cars to add to the pile of hundreds he already has.

If you look closely, you can see that for a second there, in a brief moment of insanity, Conner actually believed that he could light the candle himself, merely using his cute little two year old finger. Luckily, daddy got there just in time to light the candle with a regular old match, and saved Conner some great embarrassment.

Yeah, he's crying... and not with joy... with anger and frustration. I told you this two year old was demanding. But I suppose we should pity him... his cruel parents wouldn't let him take the cars off the cake until we had sang happy birthday to him. And then to add to the misery of his day, we actually tried to get him to blow out his candles. How dare we... well, he can bottle up all the anger inside I guess, and pay some psychologist millions of dollars to deal with the pain some day.

Yep... still crying. You should have seen how mad he got when we actually tried to make him eat a piece of cake.
And now, because I promised you a long post, and because it's Conner's birthday, and because he is a complete and total stranger to pretty much all of you... I thought it would be fitting to share some nice little personality traits of his with you. That way you can feel like you actually know him a little. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that he still doesn't know who any of you are... life's hard. And apparently, so am I.
So here's seven fascinating things about the now two year old in our home. Seven of course, because that seems to be the magic number for stuff like this.
1. He doesn't like ice cream... or popsicles... or anything like that. Too cold, I guess. We aren't too worried about it though... no doubt he will be growing out of that stage very soon, and will be pigging out on it like the rest of us.
2. No matter what mood he is in... even if he is angry, sad, or downright furious (which happens quite often), if you hold up your hand and ask him to give you a high five, he will do it. He can't help himself.
3. He is not satisfied with giving a straight 'no' for an answer when he doesn't want something, he much prefers to shout out, 'no way!'
4. His love for cars has deepened into an obsession. It has gotten to the point, for example, where I would think it was strange if I opened the pantry doors and didn't find a line of cars in front of the peanut butter, or a truck or two in the chip bag.
5. His favourite cartoon is Max and Ruby. I don't understand it... and if you have ever seen the show, then of course you understand why. It is soooo boring.
6. When he gets in trouble (awww... yes, he does sometimes... don't you feel sooo bad for him???), he will turn his head to the side, look at you out of the corner of his eye, and blink very very slowly.
7. He loves to have a drink of milk in his sippy cup. However, this is a dilemma for him, because the only time he gets a drink of milk in his cup, is when it's time to go down for a nap. And naturally, he hates naps. So when he sees me coming with his milk, he likes to grab it and then run away and hide.
There you go... hope you enjoyed it. Until next time... so long, farewell, our-feet-are-stained, goodbye!
